Day 5

I am a homeschool mom. I homeschooled my boys for the first few years of their lives. After my mom died in 2011, I chose to send my kids to traditional school in order to give myself space to readjust to my new normal.

Around 2018, I began to develop an even greater dislike for traditional schools. However, I’d returned to corporate America by this time and while I couldn’t see a solution, I began to plan my final exit so that I could focus on my kid’s education and safety. The environment was extremely toxic and initially I blamed the school district but after changing districts and running into even worse problems I realized that it would just be best for our family to homeschool.

Fast forward to late 2019/early 2020 and Covid 19. I took my exit and never looked back. Homeschooling has been amazing for us. While initially it was shaky to find curriculums that worked best for them, once we achieved that, it’s been pretty much smooth sailing. Until today…

Now for reasons unknown to me, my oldest who’s on the cusp of completing his high school journey is stalling out with his final subject that just happens to be an elective class. I’ve tried everything I know to encourage and motivate him to just complete this quickly so that he can move on. To no avail, he continues to drag his feet.

Now, I’m sure there’s some underlying reason that he will share with me when he’s ready. At this time, I just wanted to share my homeschooling journey since due to this challenge for December, you’re going to see more posts like this one.

If you’re a homeschooler or are considering it, what are your thoughts and experiences in this area?
